There might be a better way, but as someone who lives in Queens Park, this is my general route to Whittington Park: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28109889/
/ Feel free to play around with it to see if you can make it better! -

Hi Brooke,
I think you might have to opt for a different date as the ride doesn't really get going until 9am after all the introductions/teaching of signals etc. If you don't want to wait until Feb, can you attend any of the Group Skills sessions? If you email us on [email protected] so we have your details for insurance purposes, you're welcome to join us for up to 3 Sundays rides until you manage to get on a skills/intro ride
-
@Jemma 2 hours is a bit of an over estimate as to how long it'll take. Usually it's around 45 minutes to an hour max, and that's when the session is full and we're making sure everyone has a really good understanding.
@Sara_S it'll still go ahead if you want to still attend - if you don't, please let us know as we don't want our volunteers hanging around in the cold for no reason. If you'd rather go on the intro ride then by all means feel free, of course you could always do both!

Hope you’re all excited for Saturday! Weather currently looks chilly but dry and we tend to take the ride at quite a relaxed pace to ensure that everyone is comfortable riding in a group, so please wrap up warm.
As mentioned above, no need to bring huge rucksacks, big bike locks or the kitchen sink but please do make sure you’re prepared for any punctures or mechanicals that may happen on the side of the road (spare inner tube and a pump at a minimum). And please bring any on ride snacks you may want or need, we don’t stop at a cafe until the end of the ride, but will stop at the top of any notable hills so there’s plenty of time to eat something you’ve brought along with you if you're not confident eating whilst riding.
If you can no longer make the ride then please do remove yourself from the event so that someone else can come in your place – we do always have people waiting to get on these rides and it’s really frustrating when we don’t have full attendance on the day.
I’ll be one of your ride leaders on the day, if you have any questions in advance then please post it on here. Other than that, looking forward to meeting you all on Saturday morning.

Hi Elizabeth,
I talk to quite a few riders who are in the same position as yourself and mostly I recommend riding around Regent's park, either by yourself or by coming along to one of our Group Skills sessions, which are on the inner circle where there is next to no traffic. The outer circle gives you a nice step up from there into riding with other cyclists and having cars come past you but generally because everyone is going around in a circle it's less daunting than trying to navigate any right hand turns into traffic. Laps may sound a bit boring but they are a great way to get your fitness up as you rarely have to stop for lights/turns. If you'd like to start traffic free then set your alarm clock and get to the park before the gates open to traffic (7am).If you don't like the sound of laps at all then I'd recommend trying out a Breeze ride https://www.letsride.co.uk/breeze as they do all sorts of rides at varying levels and are an incredibly friendly, welcoming bunch (just like us!).

Hi,
Yes it is correct that you need to do an intro ride or a group skills ride before you can join the club. Unfortunately the intro rides tend to get full very quickly and at the moment there are no spaces left on this one, although people may free up their space before tomorrow so keep checking back. You might want to come along to a group skills ride instead as they don't fill up as quickly. We have two coming up soon:
Aug 11 - https://forum.islington.cc/events/4185/
Aug 16 - https://forum.islington.cc/events/4186/You are welcome to come along and try the sunday club rides up to 3 times before joining the club, so please feel free to do that whilst you're waiting .

Hello, Just a friendly reminder to you all ( @Charles_Persello, @user90035, @Merritt, @user90493, @Adam.G, @Sophie_clark, @Mags, @Gareth.j, @Nancy, @Craig_Bee, @BWynne57, @Umesh, @user91065, @ToddE, James _ C_ (this one can't be @'ed as it just turns the C italic!), @AlexP and @AdamC ), to double check whether you can actually attend the session this Saturday.
You may have signed up weeks ago and now all of a sudden realised that you're going out on Friday night and would rather have a lie in than attend a session of cycling in circles on Saturday morning (or, you know, have any other reason that I am struggling to think of!) then please do give up your spot by clicking the 'Can't Make It' button at the top of the page. We have loads of people who really want to join the club and are waiting to come along to a session like this, so if you know you won't be there, let them have the chance to attend.
Also the few of you who still have a 'User12345' username, please can you change it to something a bit more memorable in your profile settings? It makes it a lot easier for us... and for you in the long run.
Thanks and hopefully see you all slathered in sun cream on Saturday morning.
-
Thanks to everyone who showed up today. Really sorry to those who didn't get a space... we had 6 people not show up this morning which is really frustrating as we had so many people wanting to attend.
Those of you who made it down I'll send over your names to our membership team today, so get those applications in!
-
Hi Mags, unfortunately we don't get notified when someone drops out of the ride. Best to keep an eye on the page, a fair few people do usually drop out in the 24-48 hours prior to the ride.
On that... to everyone else... If you are down to attend and can't make it, please do pop on here and free up your spot. It's saddening when we don't have a full house on the Saturday morning but know that there were people very keen to take the vacant spaces.
-
Unfortunately there is no method by which anyone can be notified if someone drops out, other than if they post about it at the same time (then you will probably receive an email saying someone's replied to the post, unless you've chosen to unfollow the thread). You'll find most often people drop out the night before or on the day when they realise they won't be able to get out of work on time.
If anyone reading this has signed up and can no longer attend, please give up your space so that someone else can pop along in your stead. We do have a long list of people wanting to attend these sessions and volunteers taking time out of their evenings to lead them. It's pretty frustrating when it's not a full house.

Hi, I appreciate your issue but this is club policy and sometimes people do end up having to wait a little while before they can attend a session. Your annual membership won't start until it has been approved by the membership team, so your renewal date will be pushed back as well.
We do tend to have people drop out at the last minute as their plans change so please do keep an eye out for these free spaces. Yes, the reason you can't see the button is because the ride is full.
As for group skills sessions being for beginners, I can assure you they are not and all our rides teach the same principles. The intro ride is a good option for those who aren't sure if they can manage the speed and distance that is involved with club riding and want to experience this before committing to membership.
-
Currently this one is fully booked . If you keep an eye out then a space might open up and you just need to click that you are attending at the top of the page. Unfortunately if you're not signed up then you will be unable to come along to this ride (due to safety we have to limit the number of riders allowed at each session). Have a look at the Group Skills sessions as well, they are more frequent and usually less busy.
-
Hi, If you haven't done so already, you need to attend a Group Skills session or an Introductory Ride (such as this one) before your membership will be approved. It's a mandatory session that we require all our new members to attend. Once you've attended one of these your name will be passed to the membership manager and your application will be processed. You can find loads of opportunities to attend these sessions in the clipping in section of the forum.
If you've already attended one of these sessions, your membership will be processed shortly and you'll be part of the club before you know it.
-
Hi Jakki,
it very rarely takes more than an hour to run the group skills session but it does depend on how many people turn up and whether they turn up on time on time (therefore whether we get started on time!) as to what time we actually finish. The half the road rides at the weekend don't class as an official ICC intro ride so wouldn't be enough to get you membership, although this is something we could perhaps look into for next time.See you later!

Hi Rob, I'm pretty sure only torrential rain or ice would cancel the session (it's very rare that you'll get ice on the inner circle but if there's danger of ice on your journey please put your safety first).
There's no reminder as such, but if you receive notifications when someone posts to this thread, you should see a few emails come through to you in the lead up. Maybe set up a reminder of your own to make sure you don't miss out.

Hi Coxy,
You may find that people pull out of this session quite late in the day, so you could probably get in on it if you keep a beady eye out (if people kindly remember to remove themselves from the event if they can no longer make it!)
Failing that, the next group skills session is on the 28th of October, you can sign up to it here: https://forum.islington.cc/events/3363/#comment13850910
On another note, now that this ride is full, if you can no longer attend PLEASE remover yourself from the event. Just click 'can't make it' at the top of the page so that your space can be freed up for someone else.
Also if those of you who's usernames are user12345 could change them to something more memorable that would be great.
