I've signed up for 117 miles since I had a free entry, can always downgrade on the day. I'm still hobbling around and will be away on holiday (where cycling was never part of the plan) so won't be able to cycle until September so I'll have to see how fit I can get for 24 Sept in 3 weeks back on the bike. Would be nice to have some company as long as you two don't want to smash it

Are you still doing this? Anyone else? I won a free entry on 20 July and heard of this a few hours before I was knocked of my bike by a careless driver. My knee is still too stiff to allow me to cycle but I hope to be back on the bike in time to do this so it would be good to team up if anyone is up for a B pace.

Well done everyone. Sorry I had to rush off, just made it in time. As +MikeMC says, do join a group skills session or come along for 8am Regent's Park laps. If you want more hills, there's always Wednesday evenings.

I agree with +GrahamP - what you want is likely to evolve as you cycle more. I restarted cycling in 2007 and have bought 6 bikes over that period. I now have 3 bikes (1 written off in a crash, 1 had to be replaced by Halfords after poor set up/service, 1 I sold on e-bay for about 40% of its RRP). I'm very happy with all 3 of them but, given what I now know, I could have 2. There are so many subtle variants that it is hard to know what you want until you try and of course what you want changes in time.
I also agree with the price point void and I think there's also one from £1000 as so many bikes are priced at £1000 to meet the requirements of most cycle to work schemes so there's not much available for a bit above £1000.
Once you're a member, you just turn up and ride, on the understanding that you help lead rides or volunteer in other ways. Some ride leaders ask people to sign up in advance on this forum to control numbers, but there's always the option of more than one group if there are too many people. There are club rides most days, except generally Mondays and Fridays.
