Hi Anca,
As Stephen said, at the moment there's not an awful lot going on with regard to club activities, due to the ongoing pandemic. We're waiting for further updates from British Cycling but currently the advice is rides can take place in groups of up to 6 but preferably on closed roads because social distancing of 2m has to be maintained throughout. As you can imagine this is pretty impossible on London roads so we are still suspending all club activities. We will be following all government guidance, so as things ease we will be looking to reinstate club rides where we can.
Rides are being organised amongst members on our club forum, these are not sanctioned club rides and riders accept all responsibility for these rides. Social distancing still needs to be maintained at 2m between all riders on these rides as well. We are also only allowing these rides to take place where they've been organised in a way that we can track and trace riders should any develop Covid symptoms.
I'm keeping a list of people who want to be contacted when our rides are back up and running and I'd be happy to add your email address to that if you'd like? Just drop me an email on [email protected].
Thanks,
Sally

Hi, happy to give you an update but I'm afraid there's not much of one to give! The recent relaxation from British Cycling only has really changed in one way; Previously people could cycle in groups of 2 as long as they were socially distant throughout, now people can cycle in groups of up to 6 but the social distancing still has to be maintained.
Given that it is incredibly difficult to maintain social distancing whilst on a bike, especially on the busy roads that we have in London, we are still not holding any club rides. Club members are free to organise their own rides in groups up to 6 but they are not club organised activities.
I'll happily keep this thread updated as to when this changes but in the mean time if you want to drop me an email on [email protected] and I'll add you to a list of people to contact when club activities resume.
Thanks,
Sally

Hi Laura,
At the moment they are cancelled until we hear anything from the government. Even once lockdown is over, there will still be social distancing in place for a good while. Our rides won't start up again until we are sure it's safe to do so. I'm keeping a record of everyone who joins the club during this time and will email all new joiners when our intro rides (and other rides!) are back up and running.
If you do want to join now, then just make an application and I'll drop you an email to make sure you're happy with the terms outlined above. Once that's all signed off I'll process the membership.
Shout if you need any further info or advice.

Amending this thread to note that this is not an offer we are running any longer, now that Group Skills and Intro Rides are back on the agenda. Edited 25/03/2021.
As you’re probably aware we are unable to run any club rides at the moment due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. This includes the introductory and group skills rides that we mandate prospective members attend before we can approve their membership application.
We are, however, still planning and running lots of exciting club activities such as group indoor training rides, advice on how to keep exercising during lock down and even hosting a regular ‘not in the pub’ pub quiz to replace our socials.
If you would still like to join the club now, even though we are unable to get out on our normal rides, we would be happy to process your membership application and postpone the requirement for you to attend an introduction session until it is safe for us to hold them again.
If you agree, we would request that you sign up for, and attend, an introduction session (either our intro ride held once monthly, or our group skills session held bimonthly) within 3 months of them being reinstated. If you fail to attend one of these sessions then we would have to revoke your membership and you would forfeit your membership fee. The safety of our members is our number one priority and these sessions help us to ensure that everyone is behaving responsibly and riding safely when out on the road together.
You would not be able to pick up your jersey or receive your membership card until you had attended the mandated session but you would have immediate access to the entirety of our club forum, which we use to stay in touch with one another as well as arranging virtual rides and other activities. You would also have access to the membership benefits and discounts that do not require your membership card for redemption.
Obviously the decision is yours and if you would prefer to wait until we are able to ride outside again then that is absolutely fine and we look forward to welcoming you to the club when sessions are back up and running.
If you have any further questions around this or becoming a member in general then please drop me a direct message or email me: [email protected]
Thanks,
Sally

Ood idea but it's not really the same as learning skills out on the road and practising them until we get them right (like change 1, chain gang, paceline etc). We will just mandate that new members do the sessions once they're back up and running. Practical learning always lands better than classroom learning and the intention is that all of our members have a good grasp of the basics and are confident in using them to keep all do our members safe. I don't think that would be the case from an online lesson.
I've drawn up the wording, I just need to find a break in my day to start sending it out to those who've recently asked about/applied to join the club and also get it sent over to Zac to get on the website.

Hi Em, I'm currently in the process of figuring out how we can still get members on board whilst delaying their need to do the group skills/intro ride (you'd still need to do it, but would be within a time period after all of this is over). I'll drop you an email once I've ironed out all the details.
In the mean time, pop ICC in your Zwift name and people will be able to find and add you (and you can find/add them on zwift in the same way).

To all who are interested, I have now been sent the details of Leroy's funeral.
This is from Leroy's daughter:
My fathers funeral has been arranged for Monday the 24th of February at 12.45pm at West London Cematorium (980 Harrow Road, NW10 5NX), with the wake (everyone welcome) at The William IV pub to follow (786 Harrow Road, NW110 5JX).
Please pass this on to whomever would like to come, wearing black is not necessary and hats are encouraged, as my father loved a hat!I plan on attending, not sure if I have a hat to wear but imagine there could be a small sea of ICC caps if nothing else!

If the ride is showing as full then unfortunately we don't have space for any other riders to come along. We also don't have a way of notifying you should spaces come available, so suggest you keep an eye on the thread in the hope a space opens up. This does tend to happen the closer we get to the ride, so it is worth checking back now and again.
If you are signed up to attend this ride and can no longer make it, please give up your space so others can come instead.

Hi,
Sorry to correct, but only our Sunday rides are available to non club members. This is for insurance purposes (we are not covered to have guest riders at any other session than Sunday club runs).
By all means come along and do laps on your own and join us for coffee in the cafe at 9am.
Thanks,
Sally

Hi,
You don't have to do an intro ride before coming along on a Sunday but you do need to do one before you can join the club. You're welcome to join us for up to 3 Sunday rides before you need to be a member. Otherwise come along to the next intro ride at the beginning of September (details will be posted shortly) or come along to one of the Group Skills sessions, which also count as an intro ride.

Hi John,
I replied to your emails first thing on Monday morning, stating that I'm not usually able to check and reply to the membership emails over the weekend and providing you the details of how to come along to the Sunday rides etc. I assume you didn't get this email so I'll forward it on again for you. Keep an eye on your inbox.
Thanks,
Sally

@MikeMC do you have it now? I ran your email through the system last night but let me know if it didn't work - it can sometimes be a bit temperamental!
-
Hi John,
Mostly the different groups will ride different routes although there may be a small number of groups who go on similar rides. With a club as big as ours it would take over the roads if everyone were to ride the same route. Our week day rides are different, with everyone riding the same route - but these are much lower in turnout than our Sunday rides.
-
Hi John,
We no longer operate A, B and C rides as we found 3 categories too restrictive for the number of people we have in the club now. We split into four groups: Black (fastest, hardest effort, approximately 35km/h average on the flat), Blue(30km/h average), Grey (25km/h average) and Green (Slowest, reduced effort, 20km/h average).
I suggest you start with a Green group (there will be a new riders group called every Sunday so join that one) and then move up a grade as appropriate. Joining the 'new riders' ride will also help you learn our group riding skills in a less pressured environment.
There is little point going along with a fast group if you don't think you'll be able to hold on for the duration, especially as we operate a no drop policy on our rides unless otherwise stated at the set off. It is unlikely that other riders in the group will let you fall off the back so if your speed is exceptionally slower than theirs then it is slightly unfair to join their ride.
All of our club rides are operated in the same way, you will find that only the distance and speed varies really.

Hi John,
I'm the membership manager for the club and will happily send you all the info you need if you send me an email as Sean suggests above. Just one thing to note is that we can only have guests come along on our Sunday rides for up to 3 occasions before becoming a member, this is for insurance purposes. As such, the Saturday laps and the Weekday rides are only available to club members.
On Sundays, sometimes the routes are posted in advance and sometimes not - it really does depend on who wants to lead a ride that day and how organised they are! Generally we suggest all new riders go on a Green ride (easiest pace), these can vary but there will always be one taken out that is around 60-65km. You won't need the route in advance as you'll be well taken care of by the ride leader(s) on the day.
As for crit racing, there is a good turnout by Islington at crits and it tends to be decided among participants as to what, if any, the strategy of the race will be. There isn't anything set by the club for this. For example, if an individual needs some points to go up a category then likely the other ICC club mates will help them achieve that goal, but other times it will just be a free for all.
If you have anything else you need to know then by all means drop any questions into an email to me and I'll be more than happy to help. Send me an email anyway and I can give you more information on the joining/trying us out process.
Thanks,
Sally

Hi Dan,
it's actually up to you which membership you get. As your membership ha lapsed for more than 6 months you will need to do a intro/group skills session but you've already signed up to that, so that ticks that box. Once you've done that you can decide whether you want to come back to the club as an ex member or a new one.
-
Hi,
If you want to join the club then you need to do so by following this link: https://islington.cc/membership. If you've already done so then your application will be processed shortly (this usually takes place on a Monday and Thursday evening)
Other than sending a message on the forum, we don't have any way to contact those who attended the intro and group skills ride, and due to forum usernames being different to the names given on the register taken on the ride, it's quite difficult to match forum users to those that turned up on the day.
Hope that helps.

Hi Tim,
Because we need to be able to operate a track and trace system, we can't currently offer non members attendance on our standard Sunday club rides. Normally they could come along to 3 Sunday rides as a guest (no other weekday rides due to insurance reasons) but as they aren't able to sign up to rides on offer via the forum, we are unable to manage this. I am recommending that everyone join a group skills or Intro ride to get a feel for the club. Unfortunately these also rely on the kindness of the membership to volunteer so that we can clear the backlog of prospective members wanting to join or get a taste of what the club has to offer. The more volunteers we can get, the more rides we can put on.
We welcome any suggestions on how we can manage this, but at the moment I don't have the capacity to keep on top of the sheer volume of emails coming in, let alone setting up a system by which we can track and trace non members should there be a member on the ride who exhibits covid symptoms shortly afterwards.
