Glad to hear it. I actually forgot to mention that I had exploratory knee surgery on my R knee approx 25 years ago (after excessive running) + broke my L knee cap (it took the impact of the kerb when a careless pedestrian ran into me while I was cycling) 5 years ago. The latter needed an operation the next day to pin it and then another 6 months later to take the pins out. So knee surgery isn't necessarily a barrier. Enjoy the Group Skills session and I hope it persuades you to sign up

Juliette, firstly its not a "test". It's about teaching you how we ride together in a group and also to give you an idea of whether you think the club is right for you. So I would definitely come along, even if you have doubts, as there's nothing to lose really, especially in Regent's Park as you're not going to be out in the middle of nowhere if its too much for some reason. On a personal note, I'm a similar age to you and haven't been running for around 25 years because I ran too much in my twenties. I certainly couldn't run 5km but I can cycle 100 miles+ as cycling is much kinder on the knees. You would probably be fine with mountain bike cleats, which release easily, but there's certainly no need to use cleats to cycle with the club. So please come along and I hope you enjoy it, Stephen

Sorry @OliBates, you were probably ahead of us as we went undercover at the Arsenal stadium for a briefing before we rode. Well done to everyone who turned out on a damp but not-as-wet-as-forecast morning. I hope you all enjoyed it and sign up and feel free to ask any further questions here.

Thanks for an interesting write up and well done. What's the traffic like on that road? I like the sound of a course that's even faster than the one used for our Open (I've only ridden the proper course once and its still my PB). However, having driven past cyclists doing TTs on dual carriageways I find that side of things a bit scary.

+KatherineP and +IvanSmetanin there is no waiting list functionality so its worth looking to see if people drop out (especially closer to the time). You might also be lucky with this Thursday https://forum.islington.cc/events/7182/#comment16492267 (though that's also currently fully booked).

Thanks for the ride +Sir_Shannonball +MikeMC and I rode it on Friday. We went via the Lea Navigation direct to High Beech and did the complete loop from there. A really lovely route and it was (just about) fine on what were actually 27mm tyres (Open Pave). I'm glad it was dry and I'm sure my aching muscles would have appreciated something wider. Anyway, I'd certainly recommend the route and it might be even better if modified to cut out some of the Fairlop bit around the official start.
And not only did we find lots of bluebells, we even had the deer crossing our path + some lovely views back into London.

Thanks. The closest I have to a gravel bike is my Lynskey Sportive Disc; possibly a slightly earlier model than yours. Its supposed to take 32mm without mudguards but when I tried a few years ago I couldn't fit 32mm at the rear. I even measured the tyre and it was bang on. I can fit a 32mm at the front, possibly bigger. In any case, I'm too lazy to change tyres for one ride so I'll see how I do with 28mm.

Well done everyone who turned out this morning. Could those who rode with me (James+3) put their names down here given it was a bit too wet to take your names down in Barnet.
+GeorginaH my 4 were +Jamesbird +matt_leaver Ben Wheeler and +ZachG
Ben - I think your user name must be a USER123456 type which I'd suggest you change if you join

+aldovinci92 +emmac There are currently 2 spaces on tomorrow's ride https://forum.islington.cc/events/6742/#comment16338710 Bring your most waterproof gear if you do sign up!

As David says please do remove yourself if you can't make it as these rides are usually full. Judging by sign up dates, a lot of people have freed up places which others have taken which is great. There are still 8 free spaces at the time of writing. Note also the weather forecast is looking a lot drier for Saturday morning than it was a few days ago so lets hope it stays that way and I look forward to meeting you on Saturday.
-
+melania I hope you found us? Well done to everyone who braved the weather forecast and particularly to my group of 6 for riding well as a group. I hope you all join and if you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

Yes it will go ahead unless conditions are dangerous. If anyone is going to pull out due to the weather (and it looks like it should be fine by then) then please say as its not fair on those of us who give up our free time to run these sessions when people register and then don't turn up.
