dear @stealfwayne Ideally you would be able to follow the intro first. However if not possible the next one will be in a month time, or you can join a C-ride on Sunday (and ask someone to give a personal intro to group riding).
However what happens in most cases is that a few people can't make it in the end and sign out again, so it would be best to keep an eye on the forum and the attendance list to see if a spot comes free.
-
that's great @stealfwayne. welcome
On the intro ride (or in fact any of our rides), no lock needed. we will be either on the bike or have the bike in sight, so no need of a heavy lock.

Also these forum threads are of interest if you want to go racing:

Hey @user49750
We have 3 groups, A, B and C where A goes the fastest with the longest distance, and the C's the slowest/shortest distance. It depends a bit on the weather and what route people volunteer (this changes every week), but roughly
A 17+ mile/h, 70+ mile
B 15 mile/h, 60 miles
C 13 mile/h, 50 milesYou are welcome to join a ride on Sunday to see if you like the club spirit. We start at 8:30 (Whittington park), but come a but earlier and ask someone to give you a quick intro in group cycling (sign etc). What experience do you have?

Yes @Ash There will be a C-ride on Sunday, 8:30 Whittington park. We do also ride in the rain, if the rain is heavy the routes will be a bit shorter.
-
Hey @GarethT Yes tomorrow morning is RP loops. We gather in front of the zoo entrance and start riding at 8:00. On Sunday we gather in Wittington park at 8:30, and have multiple groups going into essex hertfordshire etc.
For both you can just show up. Mention you are new to one of the club members and he/she will show you the signs we use.
-
Great ride today! You were a very disciplined group as well as very social.
The group of me and @Rachel did an average of 21.5 km/h, which is a normal C-ride. I hope you all enjoyed it, and now feel comfortable to join any of our rides.
-
Sorry @Ciara. I saw your sign up too late, and couldn't send you the information on time. The next intro will be middle December, and will be announced here.
-
@walkertom @Piers you should have received a personal message in the message system on the forum (top right). See you on Saturday.
@SimonR Sorry to hear your bike has broken down. I hope you are are not injured yourself. Hopefully see you in December (13th).
-
@Piers a spot just became vacant. can you press the "attend" button if you are still interested.

Hey @user49788
Sorry for no response, maybe the email got lost in the spam @Shannonball ?
It is nice you are interested in joining the club. The intro rides teaches you the basics of group riding so if you can join an intro ride that would be ideal. There is one next weekend, which is full at the moment but often there are people giving up there spot at the last moment so keep an eye on the intro forum thread. Otherwise the next one will be middle December.
Alternatively you can join a regular C-ride on Sunday morning (8:30). In this case, come a bit earlier, and ask the leader of that day to give you a quick intro in group riding. The policy is you can first try up to 3 rides of the club before joining officially.
Hope this answers your questions and I hope to see you soon.
-
yes, we leave at 8:30 sharp at Whittington Park. Come 10 minutes earlier and ask someone with a jersey to give you some quick instructions about the signs/rules we use while riding in a group. Also when the C-group is gathered, mention to the leader you are a novice such that he/she can give some extra instructions if needed and keep an eye out.
The idea is to always stay as a group, unless it is a steep hill in which case everyone waits at the top.

Hey @Marky
The intro rides are only on Saturday, but you could join the C-ride on Sunday morning, if you feel up for it. Just come a bit earlier and mention you are a novice to the leader of that day and he/she will explain the basics.
What speed do you normally go?

I hope you recover soon @Ian See you in March
