I hope you are all looking forward to Group Skills this Saturday. Weather forecast is looking chilly, but dry at least.
Due to the latest covid situation, we will be splitting up into groups of 6 as you arrive with the entire skills session held within your group of 6 with a ride leader. This is to avoid having one large group during the initial briefing.
If you are no longer able to make this session, could you please remove yourself from the attendee list to allow for others to join, as this session is now fully booked and there are others waiting that would love a spot. (If you reserve a spot but fail to attend we reserve the right to limit your future attendance).
Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday.

@user40935If you would be able to change your username to something a little more recognisable, it will help us greatly with managing attendance and membership processing. Thanks

Hello! I'm looking to join the cycling club, and I've confirmed that I am attending the session on Saturday. Can I check if I am ok to leave my clip on tri bars on?

Hi @Ben_Granger, nothing is required insurance wise to be part of the club, though you can always get extra insurance if you wish. We have club insurance for club rides and events, but I'm not too sure what that actually covers.
You get a year's free Bronze British Cycling membership when you join the club (if never been a BC member before), which gives you liability insurance and legal support. Details here
It's worth noting that after one year when you renew your ICC membership, BC membership renewal is actually separate, they are not linked. As you can be an ICC member without being a BC member.
Many members also choose to take out additional cycling insurance, as BC is liability and doesn't actually cover your own bike/medical/transport etc. There is a long discussion about insurance on this thread with plenty of recommendations and people's experience. We also get a discount as club members from a number of different providers, details on the member's benefit section.
Feel free to ask questions on any of the relevant threads.

Hi all, look forward to seeing you tomorrow. Due to group sizes limits of 6, we don't want a big group standing around for a long time so please don't come to the meeting point any earlier than 9:25am. When you arrive I will check your name off and assign you to a group, but as you are waiting please try and keep spread out and ensure you aren't standing around in groups visibly larger than 6.

Thanks everyone who came today, hope you all enjoyed it. Nice to meet you and look forward to seeing you on a club ride soon.
Group Skills is a chance to learn and share our group riding skills so that we can ride together more safely, more sociably and with less effort. This is a great opportunity for current and prospective members to build on skills, especially for those unable to find a place in the Introductory Rides.
If you are a prospective club member, completing this course will allow you to join ICC
We will look at communication skills and formations such as pace line and two up, plus how to pace/lead the ride from the front and rotate being at the front.
Note that we will adjust the level depending on the level of who shows up.
If you know all this, come and share your knowledge and if you don't, come and take advantage of the sharers. Feel free to read our Group Riding Guide beforehand, but is not necessary as we will cover all this during the session: https://islington.cc/s/ICC-Group-Riding-Guide-Updated-August-2020.pdf
If you are new to the club and wish to become a member you will need to complete either a Group skills or an Introduction to Club Cycling training session. Please make yourself known to the ride leader so they can confirm your attendance to our membership manager.
HOW DO I JOIN IN?
If you wish to attend this session you need to sign up to the ride here on the Islington forum.
Register as a user on the forum (please help us by creating an actual name rather than the default username), then click the 'Yes I'm Attending' button above to confirm your attendance. If you see no places left, it is because the session is full. We do not maintain a waiting list so please keep checking back in case a place becomes available.
Meet in the Regent's Park Inner Circle, at the big gates opposite York Bridge.
Zac,
Development Secretary
