Group Skills is a chance to learn and share our group riding skills so that we can ride together more safely, more sociably and with less effort. This is a great opportunity for current and prospective members to build on skills, especially for those unable to find a place in the Introductory Rides.
If you are a prospective club member, completing this course will allow you to join ICC
We will look at communication skills and formations such as pace line and two up, plus how to pace/lead the ride from the front and rotate being at the front.
Note that we will adjust the level depending on the level of who shows up.
If you know all this, come and share your knowledge and if you don't, come and take advantage of the sharers. Feel free to read our Group Riding Guide beforehand, but is not necessary as we will cover all this during the session: https://islington.cc/s/ICC-Group-Riding-Guide-Updated-August-2020.pdf
If you are new to the club and wish to become a member you will need to complete either a Group skills or an Introduction to Club Cycling training session. Please make yourself known to the ride leader so they can confirm your attendance to our membership manager.
HOW DO I JOIN IN?
If you wish to attend this session you need to sign up to the ride here on the Islington forum.
Register as a user on the forum (please help us by creating an actual name rather than the default username) then click the 'Yes I'm Attending' button above to confirm your attendance. If you see no places left, it is because the session is full. We do not maintain a waiting list so please keep checking back in case a place becomes available.
Meet in the Regent's Park Inner Circle, at the big gates opposite York Bridge.
Originally signed up for 19/9 but this date is better. Looking forward to it!
Right, I’m signed up for this too... got to get over my fear of cycling with other people and being too slow/not knowing all the arm movements!!
Signed up for this too!
Hi everyone..Looking forward to it.. new member!!
New member...looking forward to it!
Hiya - i am not a member yet but prospective and would like to take the chance to join this group skills ride. I have been riding for less than a year with my clip-ins and loving it.
Looking forward to comfirmation and meeting you :)
See you all there, looking forward to joining the club.
I'm looking to join the club but it says the ride is full. Is there any chance I can tag along too or will covid not allow that?
Hi @LouisHazell there are usually people who drop out before the ride, so keep checking back regularly to see if any spaces open up, as we don't operate a waitlist.
We are limited to group size & numbers due to both Covid and club insurance reasons. If you show up without booking a spot there is a possibility taking the spot of a no-show on the day. However you need to be fully aware that we will have to turn you away if everyone who has RSVP'd does attend.
I know it is a bit longer to wait, but our Group Skills sessions in September have plenty of spaces available currently.
Hi @LouisHazell there is currently one spot that has opened up on this session.
EDIT: Looks like it's been taken already

I hope you are all excited for our first Saturday Group Skills sessions since lockdown. Weather is looking pretty good too.
If you are no longer able to make this session, could you please remove yourself from the attendee list to allow for others to join, as this session is now fully booked and there are others waiting that would love a spot. (If you reserve a spot but fail to attend we reserve the right to limit your future attendance).
Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday.
If you would be able to change your username to something a little more recognisable, it will help us greatly with managing attendance and membership processing. Thanks
Thank you so much for organising - unfortunately I have to drop out of this one.
I will be very much looking forward to the next session.
Hi @MariaHz thanks for letting me know. If you can also click "Can't make it" at the top of the page this will remove yourself from the list and allow someone else to take your spot.
Thanks for the reminder. Looking forward to Saturday!
Hi @Zac thanks for your message; very much looking forward to it! Cheers, Philippe
Hi there! Unfortunately can't make this one now but will try again for early September. I've removed myself from the list:)
Hi! Just signed up and looking forward to it. Cheers. Rajat
Morning all. Any last minute cancellations?
Thanks to everyone who came this morning, and nice to meet some of you. Hope you all enjoyed it and learned something.
If you do decide to join the club and pay today (https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/club/profile/2040/islington-cycling-club#join), Sally should be able to process your membership today so you can gain access to the full forum and join in club rides tomorrow.
Let me know if you have any questions about joining.
Great effort this morning everyone! Hope to see you all again soon!
We are running a Track session at Herne Hill Velodrome next Saturday at 14:30 (tickets available in the club shop for only £14 with bikes included) so if you don’t want to miss out, hurry up! This is an induction for total beginners so no prior experience needed and there will also be a more advanced group for those with some track experience. 😉
You can always bring your own track bike if you have one of course! 🙌🏼
