I second Jon as I've been on roughly the same plan. I generally ride before breakfast if on weekday or Saturday laps. Breakfast will generally be unflavoured yoghurt with fruit or scrambled Egg with salmon/veggies. No complex carbs.

Fuelling on rides (if really long) has been fruit/nuts outside carb window, something with complex carbs inside it and then fruit/nuts on way in. No flavoured drinks or gels outside window and I use water with neutral tabs all the time.

Gradually built up endurance.

I remember that ride so well. He was great company to spend a whole day in the saddle with, always a gent helping out. He volunteered to do a recce of The Great Escape last year too - he was always prepared to help out.

Original North Londoner who used to ride parts of the club routes as a kid and gave it up on joining the world of work. That changed after the first Ride London but it still took me 3 years to join ICC. Ridden LeJog 3x and many more miles since. Likes coffee and cake in the carb window because thats the best part of cycling. Can often be found in Regents Park at stupidly early hours on weekdays and Saturdays. Hop on.

I ride an Airnimal chameleon ultra as my commuter. I'm thinking of trying the fixie loop with it or laps in good weather.

Is there a sunday club ride tomorrow (30th Oct) - whittington park at 0830?

Hi, I've just joined but cannot attend this one . Is this compulsory as an intro to the club? Unfortunately I'm in another group ride on that day with someone going for the world record for most miles ridden in a year. Can I turn up at London zoo gates for 8am for the laps session this sat (30th oct) and ride in a group there?
