I have been a London bike commuter since I was in secondary school (is it still called commuting if you are a schoolboy? I don't see why not). I stopped and started quite a bit over the years, but for the past 10-11 years I have been very keen, using my bike as my main means of getting around the city all of the time. I did a stint as a full-time Deliveroo courier about seven years ago, and still do it occasionally.
I would very much like to join a cycling group. I won't list all of those reasons why here, but I will say being in a group would provide me with the impetus to do some longer rides where I could build up a bit of speed.
